Diagnose resolution and scaling with evidence first

Reproduce the resolution problem after a normal restart and record the monitor name, connection type, current resolution, recommended resolution, and refresh rate shown in Settings.

Check whether the wrong resolution affects one monitor or every connected display. If only one screen is affected, focus on that display, cable, EDID detection, and graphics path.

Complete these focused checks: identify the correct numbered display in Settings; read the monitor native resolution from its manual; compare desktop resolution with active signal mode; test a direct connection without the dock or adapter. Interpret the result before escalating

If the monitor reports the wrong resolution even before normal Windows startup, or another operating system sees the same incorrect mode, focus on the monitor, cable, adapter, GPU output, or EDID path rather than Windows apps.

If the native resolution appears but the picture is still blurry or incorrectly scaled, treat that as a separate scaling or signal issue instead of repeating the resolution repair.
